Souderton, PA – July 15th, 2008 – On Wednesday, July 9th, Moyer Indoor | Outdoor® hosted the 14th Annual 5K Race and 6th Annual Fit Fest. The 5K Race and Fit Fest are sponsored by Moyer in order to promote health benefits in the community and raise monies to benefit the Souderton High School Cross Country Scholarships and Concert Sundaes. This year’s events were both held at The Souderton Community Park. The Fit Fest, held from 2:30 PM until the beginning of the race at 7 PM, is held to increase community members’ awareness of daily health. This year’s first place winner for men was Joe Dare. First place is a familiar feeling for Dare as it was his 6th year winning the Moyer 5K. This year’s first place female winner was Alexis Flores. Both winners were thrilled to take part in the race. The adult race started and finished at the corner of Souderton Park at Reliance Road and Wile Avenue and ran through town ending at the same corner. Others running in the Annual 5K Race were also fine examples of health. A record number of 460 runners participated in this year’s race as well as another 90 runners in the 1K kids’ race. Friends and family members showed up to enjoy the festivities, including Harry the DJ, and to cheer on runners despite the threat of a severe rain. After the race, runners and those in attendance enjoyed water, popsicles, pizza and turkey dogs. The festivities culminated in an Awards Ceremony for 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place categories for men and women. The Fair was held under a big white tent in the park and housed 18 vendors. The vendors in attendance provided tests, information and hands-on education about high blood pressure, bone density, heart health, breast exams and reflexology. “The Fit Fest,” says Ed Cardell, Director of Marketing for Moyer, “is a natural extension of our annual 5K Race. Moyer believes strongly in giving back to the community. And what better way to give back than hosting an event – a few events actually – that increase the community members’ health?”
