| 15th Annual Moyer 5K Brings a Record Number of Participants |
Moyer Indoor Outdoor hosted their annual Fit Fest and 5K at Souderton Community Park on Wednesday, July 8th. In its 15th year, with more than 700 participants in total, the 5K run is joined with a kid’s fun run (1K) and 2-mile fitness walk. In a collective effort alongside the 5K, the 7th annual Fit Fest was held to promote health and wellness in the community. Each year the proceeds benefit Souderton High School Cross Country Scholarships and Concert Sundaes. For his seventh Moyer 5K win, Joe Dare (23) a Souderton resident completed the 5K in 15 minutes, 38 seconds. Just behind him at 19 minutes, 10 seconds was the top female, Meghan McGovern (15) of North Wales, PA. This was Meghan’s first year participating and her mother was sure to say that it won’t be her last. The event is held to bring community members together, with friends and family cheering the runners and enjoying the music and Fit Fest festivities. "Moyer is pleased to be able to contribute back to the community and looks forward to presenting the cross country scholarships," said Bob Williamson, GM for Moyer Indoor Outdoor and coordinator of the annual event. Donnie Noble (6th place) a Souderton HS senior and one of the 2009 5K-scholarship recipients completed the event with his father Don Noble. The Fit Fest is held from 2:30 p.m. until the race begins at 7 p.m. with area health professionals available and eager to provide information, tests, and hands-on education about blood pressure, bone density, heart health, and more. “The Moyer Fit Fest is a perfect complement to the 5K and Fitness Walk, putting more emphasis on healthy lifestyles. Over 20 health care providers offered free screenings and information to the public. We hope to see more of the community take advantage of these free screenings next year; people of all ages are welcome,” said Anne Slifer, HR Director for Moyer Indoor Outdoor and coordinator of the Fit Fest.
