Souderton, PA – July 15, 2010 - Moyer Indoor|Outdoor® hosted their annual 5K and Fit Fest at Souderton Community Park on Wednesday, July 7th. With near record high temperatures, this year’s race proved to be a challenging one, but there was no stopping the more than 600 participants.

The hot and humid weather had no effect on performance for Souderton resident, Joe Dare (24) as he continued his dominance of the Moyer 5K. For his eighth win, Dare completed the 5K in 17 minutes, 11 seconds. Just behind him at 18 minutes, 27 seconds was the top female, Christa Plummer (24) of North Wales, PA. "The event was very successful. Despite the high temperatures, the race was probably the most successful in 16 years. Runners came prepared to battle the heat and held up well,” said Bob Williamson, GM for Moyer Indoor|Outdoor® and coordinator of the annual event.

Diana Bernecker, Moyer Indoor|Outdoor®, commented on extra precautions taken to help keep runners cool; “The fire department and area homeowners along the course came out and helped to cool down the runners with hoses. Every year we reach out to area residents to come and cheer on the participants; this year they really stepped up to make a difference!”

The annual 5K event is held to bring community members together, with friends and family cheering the runners on, while enjoying music, Fit Fest festivities, and food. The event also supports the Moyer Indoor|Outdoor® 5K Cross Country Scholarship, which is awarded to two Souderton Area High School Cross Country Seniors each year.

The Fit Fest was held from 2:00 p.m. until the race began at 7 p.m. Area health professionals enthusiastically provided information, tests, and hands-on education about blood pressure, bone density, heart health, and more.
