Moyer Indoor Outdoor Celebrates
12 Years of Community Reading Day

Six Moyer Indoor|Outdoor® representatives participated in the 12th Annual Community Reading day, sponsored by the Penn Suburban Chamber of Commerce, in three different local elementary schools throughout the Souderton School District. Teachers, children and volunteers look forward to this program every year.

Janet Glowa, one of Moyer Indoor|Outdoor®’s credit specialists, participated in the Community Reading Day for the first time. “The kids were great. They really appreciated it. As I read they were itching up closer and closer; I can’t wait to do it again!” When asked to describe her experience in one word Glowa briefly paused, the assertively responded, “fulfilling.” Jim Church, Moyer’s Community Relations Representative, read to second graders at Oak Ridge Elementary in Harleysville. As he read Duck at the Door, a humorous story about a house full of animals that are awakened by a knock at the front door from Max the duck. The second grade class was filled with laughter as students asked questions and gave their input. “My mother would have never let that duck in the house!” shouted one student. Church has participated in the event for nine years, and every year he has a great experience.

Students were given bookmarkers and Phillies Reading Tickets donated by The Penn Suburban Chamber of Commerce as well as, the storybooks read by Moyer Indoor|Outdoor® employees, which were donated to the schools’ libraries. Moyer’s Marketing Director, Diana Bernecker, said, “We had such a great time reading Owney, a story of a dog who traveled the US by train. Each time I read the word train the students said “choo-choo” and every time the dog in the story barked, the students did as well. They couldn’t stop. I think I left the teacher with a handful.” Diana gave each student an added project, a planting kit for each to take home and experience a little outside learning.

Sponsored by Penn Suburban Chamber of Commerce, there were 35 public and private schools in Methacton, North Penn, Souderton, Wissahicken, and Whitpan School Districts that participated.  Since this program was initiated, Moyer Indoor |Outdoor® has been privileged to be part of each annual reading day. “It’s a neat way to give back to the community” said Church. “I think it’s a great program, and I hope it’s something that continues forever.”
