September 16th, 2008 – Souderton, PA – On Saturday, September 6th, the 11th annual Univest Grand Prix Weekend, one of thirteen Union Cyclist International (UCI) ranked professional road cycling competitions for men in the United States, took place under torrential rains. Bringing together over 150 professional riders from 16 countries and crowds of spectators, the Grand Prix is hosted by Univest and other sponsors, such as Moyer Indoor Outdoor, to support the local YMCA as well as other non-profit organizations. Despite this year’s downpour, Moyer Indoor Outdoor employees, who had been selling raffle tickets from July up until the race, volunteered their time on Saturday to sell hot dogs, soft pretzels, sodas, water, coffee and donuts to raise money in addition to the sale of raffle tickets. Says Ed Cardell, Marketing Director at Moyer Indoor Outdoor, “Our employees look forward to this event every year. It’s a great way for us to work as a team and give back to the community. Of course, we send out a huge thanks to everyone who participated. It was a great success.” Prizes included a cart full of groceries from Landis Supermarkets, 50 gallons of gas from the Moyer Fueling Center, and tickets to the Sellersville Theater, Montgomery Theater, and County Theater and Ambler Theater. This year Moyer raised a total of $2,500 dollars for the North Penn YMCA, which they presented to Betty Linko, YMCA COO. When asked what the funds would be put toward, Linko said, “ These funds will go toward helping members who aren’t able to pay for a YMCA membership but still wish to be members and participate in the YMCA community.” The North Penn YMCA provides programs and services for children, teens, families, seniors and those with special needs in the North Penn, Indian Valley and Perkiomen Valley communities. Their mission is to make the community they serve a better place to live. Through YMCA programs and activities, they strive to enrich and strengthen families; provide wholesome supervised recreation; offer positive learning, leadership and character development opportunities.
