Souderton, PA – June 10, 2008 – Moyer Indoor Outdoor announces the 2008 recipients of the Moyer Indoor Outdoor 5K Cross Country Scholarship, Alexis Flowers of Telford and Daud Ahamed of Souderton. Both students attend Souderton Area High School and are outstanding members of the Cross Country team. The students were awarded their scholarships on June 3 at Souderton Area High School’s Senior Award Night.

The annual event congratulates hardworking seniors and their families. This year more than one hundred scholarships were awarded at the ceremony. Bob Williamson, General Manager, Moyer Indoor Outdoor, presented the company’s senior awards. Said Williamson, “Alexis and Daud are exemplary members of their student body. We’re pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements. We wish them the best.”

Alexis Flowers is a four-year letter winner and a two-year captain of the Souderton Cross Country team. She is also a two-time All-League Honoree. Alexis will be attending Lafayette College in Easton where she plans to major in Neuroscience under the college’s Pre-Med program. While attending Lafayette, Alexis plans to pursue equestrianism. Said Alexis, “I enjoy running, but equestrianism is my first love. I know I’ll be busy with my classes, but when I’m not studying, I plan to ride!”

Daud Ahamed moved to the United States only two and a half years ago. Already he is a two-year letter winner on the Souderton Cross Country team. Daud enjoys math and plans to attend Montgomery County Community College in the fall, where he’ll major in Accounting. He plans to eventually transfer to Widener University in Chester, PA and to continue running at both colleges. Said Daud of the event, “I’m honored to receive this award. I really enjoy running. So, it feels great to be recognized.”

Both scholarships are supported by the annual Moyer Indoor Outdoor 5K event. Held annually at Souderton’s Community Park, this year’s 5K Race is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9th. The race starts and ends near the Souderton Community Park entrance near Main Street. The festivities begin at 6 PM and end at 9 PM. Proceeds from the race benefit the Moyer Indoor Outdoor Souderton Area Cross Country Scholarship and Concert Sundaes.
