On Monday night, December 11th, firefighters from Hatfield and Souderton were called to the scene of a fire on a property at 129 Allentown Road in Franconia Township. When they arrived, the fire had already been extinguished thanks to the efforts of Sean Bednar, who spotted the fire when he was driving by on his way home from work.

Thankfully, when Bednar saw the smoke and fire, he chose to stop. “We appreciate his quick thinking. If it weren't for Sean, it may have been a real disaster, as there is a barn about 50 feet from the trailer where we board our horse,” stated Ruth Brinckman, a neighbor of the property.

Sean is an employee of Moyer & Son, Inc. in Souderton. His truck, as do all Moyer & Son trucks, has a fire extinguisher on board which enabled him to act quickly and put out the fire before it could get out of control.

“We offered Sean a reward for his efforts,” stated Ruth, “and he refused — he is definitely a fine young person.”

There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation according to chief Al Sergio from Perseverance Fire Company in Souderton. Fire equipment at the scene caused Allentown Road to be closed between Souder Road and Elroy Road.
