Free Homeowner Tips

There’s a reason why luxury resorts across the country are converting their pools and spas
into saltwater systems. Privileged guests swim into smoother, softer water that is gentler on
their eyes, skin, hair and apparel. It’s a true dive into luxury – luxury that you can actually
experience at your own home as well. Converting your pool to a saltwater system is easier
than you may think. There are five big misconceptions about saltwater pools, so let’s dive
right in and debunk these myths.

Myth #1: My pool water is going to taste salty like the ocean.
Wrong. The taste threshold for salt for most people is about 5,000 parts per million (ppm).
The salt level in a “saltwater pool” only registers at 3,000 ppm and is well below this
threshold. To put this in perspective, the saltiness of your tears is about 9,000 ppm or three
times the salinity of a pool. The ocean actually has a salt level of more than 30,000 ppm, or
10 times the salinity of the pool.
