1. The Insidious Ant
Your kitchen is one of an ant’s favorite places to set up camp. They feed off of the same
food you eat, so sightings marching out of pantries and countertops are common.
Unfortunately, the ant is a social insect, and they gather in large colonies anywhere from a
few hundred to a few thousand. Watch out for these common types:

The Carpenter Ant: This is the largest species of ants in the area and also happens
to be the most damaging. Their main colonies are typically found in trees 100 yards away from a
home, and they infiltrate homes with anywhere between 1-3 satellite colonies.

The Odorous House Ant: This is the most common ant in the area. Their large colonies can
number anywhere between 2,000-10,000 ants. One of their not-so-pleasant characteristics is
that when crushed they expel a distinct odor. And since they are very sensitive to pesticides,
non-repellents and baits have to be used to control this ant.

The Pavement Ant: Like their name indicates, these ants are commonly found under concrete
or other common building materials around homes. They are a small ant, but their colonies can
range anywhere from 3,000-4,000 ants.
