The salt is added directly to the pool water. A “cell” in the system separates the chlorine from the salt to sanitize the water, after which the chlorine reverts back to salt. Since there is no need to add chlorine tablets or sticks to a chlorinator or skimmer basket, this cuts down on the purchase and storage of harsh chemicals around your home and further protects your pool’s filter, heater and skimmer.
